Bruce Zavos, AIA, NCARB
PrincipalAs President, Bruce provides guidance for all of ZA+D’s projects and leadership in implementing the firm’s core values and objectives. He has been an architect for over thirty years and has focused his talents on community oriented projects and building a practice representative of his ideals.
With his organizational and management abilities, he has led his eponymous firm to numerous design and preservation awards incorporating both high design ideals and sustainable design objectives. The source of Bruce’s continuing success has resulted from his ability to listen, creatively problem solve and engage the community and stakeholders in the design process.
Bruce is also deeply involved in the welfare of his community and serves on numerous boards and organizations.
Hannah Weikel, ASID, LEED® AP
Principal & Director of ZADinteriorsHannah joined the firm in 2004 after earning a bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture from Longwood University. With over 16 years of experience with the firm, she earned her NCIDQ Certification and became a LEED® Accredited Professional. Hannah was then appointed Director of ZA+Dinteriors, making her the only in-house certified interior designer.
Specializing in interior finish selection, space planning, and design models, Hannah has served a wide range of residential, educational, medical, housing and commercial clients and prides herself on satisfying each end user. Working closely with every project type and phase has made her a well-rounded design professional.
Forrest Popkin, RA
PrincipalEmily Lally, RA, CPHC
Director of PassivEmily is a Registered Architect with an enthusiasm for sustainable design. She has always been interested in the built environment and its effect on everyday life. Emily is a Phius Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) and is continually growing her knowledge of passive house design strategies in an effort to keep clients informed on the latest science. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from University of Maryland.
As Director of Passiv at ZA+D, Emily is passionate about creating spaces that focus on the comfort and health of the occupants. She is working towards creating a more resilient and efficient built environment.
Emily has a variety of expertise from her background working in the government, commercial, master planning, and residential sectors. She enjoys working closely with clients and seeing the positive impact completed projects have on the community.
Emily loves to sketch both at work and in her free time. She also dabbles in photography, editing, and painting. When the weather is nice you can find her hiking along one of the local trails.
Emily received the 2023 AIA Potomac Valley Emerging Professional Award.
Tim Bain, CPHC
Project ManagerTim re-joined the ZA+D family in February of 2021 after working on the Eastern Shore for the past few years as a Project Manager. His past experience includes working in all fields of architecture ranging from small to large scale projects. He strives on team work and being able to produce a comprehensive and thorough set of drawings. Tim is a PHIUS – Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) and is currently on his path to licensure, in which he hopes to obtain soon. Tim has his Masters of Architecture degree from Norwich University located in Vermont.
You can find Tim at the local dirt racing track or visiting the local breweries on the weekend. Some other hobbies include camping and hiking in the mountains when the weather is nice or playing percussion in the local community band.
Liam Fox
Project ManagerLiam started with the firm in the Fall of 2018. Before that he worked in the construction field as both an estimator and an engineer. While working construction he attended Morgan State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Environmental Design.
Some of his interests are listening to music, wood working, and on the weekend going out on hikes. He is excited to bring some of his experience and ideas to the ZAD team.
Abagale Burton, LEED AP BD+C
Project ManagerAbbey joined the ZA+D team at the start of 2023. After earning her Master of Architecture degree from Kent State University, she began her career in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and later relocated to Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Abbey’s experience in commercial architecture includes office, industrial, multi-family, hotel, and government projects. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and currently pursuing licensure.
Whether it’s hiking or throwing a ball for her dog in the backyard, Abbey enjoys outdoor activities and traveling. She values architecture’s constantly evolving nature and looks for opportunities to learn about the latest industry standards.
Callie Hart
Office ManagerCallie rejoined ZA+D in February, 2021. She has brought back over 10 years of extensive knowledge and experience to her Office Manager role. Her ongoing skillset and current responsibilities range from project contracts, construction administration functions, accounts receivable and payable functions, billing, accuracy of project dynamics to maintain client satisfaction, build operations and anything in between.
Callie was born and raised in Maryland and has been a resident of Hagerstown, Maryland for over 10 years. In her spare time, she enjoys vacationing with her husband, and children, but most of her spare time is spent watching her son steal second on the baseball field and sitting in the audience at her daughter’s dance recitals.
