As President, Bruce provides guidance for all of ZA+D’s projects and leadership in implementing the firm’s core values and objectives. He has been an architect for over thirty years and has focused his talents on community oriented projects and building a practice representative of his ideals.
With his organizational and management abilities, he has led his eponymous firm to numerous design and preservation awards incorporating both high design ideals and sustainable design objectives. The source of Bruce’s continuing success has resulted from his ability to listen, creatively problem solve and engage the community and stakeholders in the design process.
Bruce is also deeply involved in the welfare of his community and serves on numerous boards and organizations.
Over the past 14 years since graduating from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, Donna has developed and honed her skills as a project manager. She’s been with ZA+D for 10 years, efficiently managing the day-to-day design, production, scheduling and construction administration for her projects and maintaining strong lines of communication with clients to ensure the success of a project. Her project experience includes acute care hospital facilities, medical office buildings, schools, commercial buildings and multi-family affordable and senior housing. Within the office Donna works with the staff to coordinate project schedules and staffing schedules so that projects meet deadlines and are within the client’s schedules.
Karen has been with ZA+D since its establishment in 2003. With over 20+ years of administrative and managerial experience, she deftly maintains the business side of the firm and keeps the office running smoothly and efficiently. Her knowledge of office procedures extends from contracts to computers and everything in between. When not working, you can find Karen either on the back of one of her horses or teaching horseback riding lesson at a local horse farm.
Hannah joined the firm in 2004 after earning a bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture from Longwood University. With over 12 years of experience with the firm, she earned her NCIDQ Certification and became a LEED® Accredited Professional. Hannah was then appointed Director of ZA+Dinteriors, making her the only in-house certified interior designer. Specializing in interior finish selection, space planning and design models, Hannah has served a wide range of residential, educational, medical, housing and commercial clients and prides herself on satisfying each end user. Working closely with every project type and phase has made her a well rounded design professional.
Born and raised near Frederick, Maryland, and grew up a diehard Baltimore Orioles fan. John’s passion for Architecture began early when his family would take road trips across the U.S. and he would spot a stadium here or skyscraper there. After working in Chicago for nearly 10 years, John was excited to move back to the area to be near family. John spends much of his free time enjoying the outdoors while camping, hiking and traveling with his growing family.
John is a Project Manager with over 10 years of experience in residential architecture, historic preservation, new construction, planning, renovation & preservation/reuse.
Mark has worked as a Project Manager and/or Registered Architect in the Frederick County and surrounding regions for nearly 30 years (licensed as an Architect in MD since 1995), and has provided related professional services on a wide variety of commercial (and residential) architectural project types throughout his career. Within the ZA+D office, Mark’s efforts are focused primarily on management of the construction administration phase of project work (as well as construction documentation), but he also provides assistance to the office team with other architectural tasks.
Mark has lived and worked in the Frederick County area for nearly his entire life, and enjoys free time with his family, often spent visiting regional historic sites and downtown districts.
After leaving the Culinary field in 2010, Nicki joined the Administrative Support field in order to spend more time with her family. She has spent the past 7 years as either an Administrative Assistant or an Office Manager, bringing her exceptional organization and attention to detail to her position. Nicki’s favorite part of her work includes website management and social media interaction.
In her spare time, Nicki can be found relaxing on Lake Linganore, watching sports, or driving her daughter to dance competitions.
Tim is a recent graduate from Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont where he received his Masters of Architecture Degree in 2017 along with his Bachelors of Science in Architectural Studies in 2016 with a Minor in Art. His architectural passion is to help design buildings that work hand in hand with the environment using green solutions that help foster a brighter future. Some hobbies include being an avid percussionist, playing gigs on the side and hanging out at the local baseball stadium.
